Our History

1759

Jesse Gregson was born.

  • Canada was under French control.
  • India was governed by the East India Company.
  • Australia was not yet a penal colony.
1786

Jesse Gregson was admitted to the roll as a solicitor.

1788

Gregsons Solicitors was founded.

1793

Gregsons established its office at 8 Angel Court, City of London, remaining there for 111 years.

  • Jesse became the solicitor to The Society for Prosecuting Felons.
  • During the Napoleonic Wars, Jesse’s son Jonathan joined the practice.
  • Jesse and Jonathan helped Sir Robert Peel with legislation creating the new police force.
1824

Jesse died; the firm continued under his son Jonathan.

Before the Crimean War

Jonathan brought his son Robert into the partnership.

1887

Jesse’s great-grandson Leonard joined the partnership during Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.

1901

Leonard was joined by Frederick W. Wareham, who lived in Wimbledon.

  • Frederick sheltered and represented Emile Zola during the Dreyfus affair.
1901

Frederick took over upon Leonard's retirement.

  • He established an office in Wimbledon on Alexandra Road
1926

Moving to 57 St George’s Road

World War II Era

The partnership included Frederick, his son, ‘Boy,’ and son-in-law, Cecil Burr.

1943

Jeffery Burr joined the firm

1968

Jeffery Burr became senior partner

1983

Michael Creamore started at the firm as a trainee and heads the Employment Law team.

Later Years

Edmund Middlehurst, trained under Jeffery Burr and became Managing Partner when the firm moved to its current location.

2000 & 2001

Partner Alexandra Adam and Mike Jones joined, boosting expertise in dispute resolution and commercial property.

2013
  • Samir Hussain became a Partner and Heads of Wills, Estates & Tax.
  • David McGrady, a former President of the Institute of Legal Executives (2010-2011), who was, instrumental in the Institute securing its Royal Charter in January 2012, become a consultant.
  • Gregsons celebrated its 225th anniversary.
April 2017

Michael Creamore who trained Edmund Middlehurst became Managing Partner.

Gregsons acquired Paton Walsh Laundy Solicitors.

  • Gregsons acquired Paton Walsh Laundy Solicitors.
  • Grant Needham, Sophie Hutchinson, and Richard Shinn joined, enhancing the firm’s expertise in employment, property, and private client services.
April 2021

Ed Tennant joined the firm and is the partner responsible for the firm’s Property Department.
